GLOBAL NATIONAL WITH KEVIN NEWMAN
CELEBRATES QUEBEC CITY’S 400TH ANNIVERSARY WITH TWO LIVE ON-LOCATION BROADCASTS
COMMEMORATES HISTORICAL EVENT THAT SHAPED CANADA
JULY 2 & 3 – 5:30 P.M.
(VANCOUVER – June 27, 2008) Global National with Kevin Newman makes its way to Quebec City for two special live broadcasts in celebration of the city’s 400th anniversary, a landmark date in Canadian history.
On Wednesday, July 2 and Thursday, July 3 at 5:30 p.m., Global National Anchor and Executive Editor Kevin Newman leads the newscast on-location at the historic Dufferin Terrace. Along with Quebec correspondent Mike Armstrong and the Global National team, Newman provides viewers a behind-the-scenes look as the city prepares for this momentous celebration. Global National will also release results from a nationwide Ipsos-Reid poll on Canada and Quebec relations.
“Quebec City is rich in history, and the significance of this particular milestone should be shared with Canadians nationwide,” said Kevin Newman. “For generations, old and new, it’s important for all of Canada to commemorate the events that helped shape our country.”
Newman will take viewers through the historic sites from the unique perspectives of two elementary students, while Armstrong will give Canadians an in-depth tour of the fortified walls in Quebec’s Old Town, and the centuries-old artifacts found on the site.
On July 3, 1603, French explorer Samuel de Champlain sailed down the St. Lawrence River and established a village near Cape Diamond that eventually became the city of Quebec. Centuries later and after the shift of power from the French to British regime, the city now represents various cultures and nations from all over the world.
